Assettrust Housing officially open affordable housing development in Wandsworth
20-04-2006
Assettrust Housing (AHL) marked the opening of Point Pleasant a new affordable housing development located just off Putney Bridge Road and close to the river, in Wandsworth today. The scheme, built by Berkeley Homes comprises 72 one and two bedroom apartments which have been sold on a shared ownership basis.
AHL is a private company investing in affordable housing in England and Wales. It works in partnership with housing associations, local authorities and developers to provide high quality homes for rent or for purchase through shared ownership. It does this without the aid of public grants. The apartments at Point Pleasant were bought by purchasers registered on Wandsworth’s shared ownership nominations list.
The opening ceremony was held in the communal gardens at Point Pleasant, with Sir Brian Unwin, AHL’s Chairman, introducing Cllr Martin D Johnson, Executive Member for Housing, Wandsworth who formally declared the development open.
Commenting on the success of the development, Cllr Martin D Johnson said: "We have over the years developed a close working relationship with Assettrust. They have significantly added to provision of affordable housing in Wandsworth and without the need for public subsidy. Point Pleasant is a great success story and we welcome more such schemes in the future."
Brian Unwin, Chairman of AHL added: "I am pleased to say that we are already working on other schemes in the borough and across London." He added, "Together with Wandsworth, we have been able to pioneer a method by which the private sector is able to contribute to the affordable housing stock of many other local authorities across the country."
